Historic Floods in NashvilleSamaritan's Purse has set up a base in Brentwood, Tennessee, and is assessing the best location for a second site as we respond to devastating floods in the Nashville area.
Much of Nashville is under water, thousands of people in Tennessee have been driven from their homes, and nearly 20 people have died in some of the worst flooding in memory.
Samaritan's Purse deployed a Disaster Relief Unit on Monday. A base has been set up at the Bethel World Outreach Center in Brentwood. A second Disaster Relief Unit is being dispatched to the area.
Volunteers are being mobilized from across the country, and more emergency relief equipment is on the way.
Our crews specialize in cleaning out mud-soaked houses so that they can be repaired. As we work, we help families cope with their losses and offer them hope in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Flash floods swept the area after weekend thunderstorms dumped more than 13 inches of rain. The Cumberland River, which winds through Nashville, crested more than 11 feet above flood stage.
Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen called it an “unprecedented rain event” as the rain nearly doubling the previous record of 6.68 inches that fell in the wake of Hurricane Fredrick in 1979.
