And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28, NIV). These words came alive for three members of our staff in Myanmar who saw God’s provision in the most unlikely ways.

The team was working to bring clean, safe drinking water to villages that had been struck by a devastating cyclone in May 2008. They planned to construct household filters that use sand and rocks to purify unsafe water.

The men began searching for the specific types of sand and rock needed for the filters, but after long days of taking samples and making inquiries they realized the materials were almost impossible to find. Discouraged, the men turned to the Lord.

They got back on their motorbikes after fervently praying. The road was badly rutted, and an ignition key was jarred from one of the bikes. As the men looked around for the missing key, they realized that the rocks under their feet were exactly the type they needed for the filters.

With praise in their hearts and newfound confidence in their mission, they set out again.

The next village had the sand needed for the project, but there was still the challenge of loading it onto vehicles for transport to the filter construction site. Our team began talking to the villagers, who told them about a wonderful group called Samaritan's Purse that came to their rescue after the cyclone had hit their village.

Our team reveled they were working with Samaritan's Purse, and in thankfulness the excited villagers immediately volunteered to help load the sand.

“We have seen that miracles really do happen,” a staff member said. “God is with us, and He answered our prayers.”

    PLEASE PRAY

  • That everyone helped by our projects in Myanmar will see the love of God.

  • For people in the Irrawaddy Delta region who are still trying to recover from the devastating impact of Cyclone Nargis.

  • That our agreement with the Myanmar government will be extended past April, and we will be able to continue working in the country.
