A pastor who received clean water from Samaritan’s Purse passes on the blessing

“And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things” (Mark 6:34, NKJV).
Pastor Simon Tsuma hails from Mazola village in Kenya, where Samaritan’s Purse constructed and installed BioSand household filters about four years ago. His village also benefited from water harvesting tanks, and they now have easy access to clean water.
Recently, while on a visit to Bahakanda village, Pastor Tsuma found himself playing the roles of a pastor and a community health worker.
The people of Bahakanda depend on surface runoff water from ponds and shallow wells. Many of them consume the water straight from the source. When Pastor Tsuma was presented with the water to wash his hands before eating a meal at one of the homes, he asked how the water was treated.
When he realized that it had not been treated, he spent the next hour explaining to them the importance of treated water and proper sanitation.
“I was moved with compassion, and I had to teach them,” he said. “I talked about the importance of clean water and why they risk poor health with current sources of water.”
Moved by benevolence, Pastor Tsuma shared this story and his hopes for the village with us.
“Just like you have shared the love of Christ with us through water, I hope that you can share the same with the people of Bahakanda,” he said.
