Samaritan's Purse supplies Bibles and other Scripture materials to people who are hungry for God's word.
Now is the Time For Evangelism
In a world that is fractured and coming apart at the seams—with worldwide political, economic and military instability—what is the single most important thing that you and I as followers of Christ can do?
I believe that evangelism—proclaiming the Good News of forgiveness and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ—is the most critical need of the hour. The spiritual darkness and turmoil that is fast enveloping the world is only serving to prepare hearts to hear and receive the Gospel.
The goal of everything we do at Samaritan’s Purse is evangelism. Whether we are feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, or meeting other needs, our goal, hope, and desire is to win the lost to personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
I recently visited a mission hospital in northern Jordan that is a beacon of God’s light in the Middle East. Our good friend Aileen and her staff—some of God’s choicest servants—have been bringing compassionate medical care in the Name of Jesus to this part of the world for over 50 years. This hospital played a crucial role in my spiritual life as a young man, and I wouldn’t be where I am today if not for Aileen and the late Dr. Eleanor, the dear missionaries who founded this ministry. Over the years, God has used this mission hospital to introduce countless people to the grace and truth of Christ.
Not long ago, Aileen ventured into the Jordanian desert to visit a Bedouin family with two sick children. The mother had been a patient at the mission hospital years ago and has always treasured the Gospel she heard there—even teaching her children the way of salvation. Aileen was delighted to discover the woman’s 8-year-old daughter understood the meaning of Christ’s death on the cross.
“His blood took away my sin and Mama’s sin,” the little girl said. “Now Mama and I are daughters of Jesus.”
There is no more powerful tool for evangelism than the Word of God. Through the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit, the Scriptures have transforming power, enabling men and women to repent of their sins and to receive God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. “You have been born again … through the living and enduring word of God” (1 Peter 1:23, NIV).
The Word of God is at the heart of our ministry of relief and evangelism. Samaritan’s Purse is committed to taking God’s great message of salvation to the whole world, handing out millions of Bibles translated into local languages and training thousands of
indigenous pastors and evangelists to preach God’s Word. I would like to share just a few examples:
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: As local churches hand out shoe box gifts, they draw children and their families from the entire community. We provide these churches with Gospel storybooks, Bible lessons, and New Testaments to lead children to faith and help them grow in the Lord. This year, we hope to give away over 2 million “Greatest Gift of All” New Testaments.
EVANGELISTIC TRAINING: Hundreds of thousands of people in Liberia live in spiritual bondage, practicing voodoo rituals and animal sacrifices. This year, we are training and equipping over 1,100 church workers to preach the liberating truth of God’s Word. Our teams also continue to rebuild the Liberia campus of the African Bible College, including the chapel, library, classrooms, and dormitories.
BIBLE DISTRIBUTION: Hundreds of churches in South Sudan recently participated in our massive Bible distribution project, a campaign to supply 260,000 Bibles in six languages while establishing thousands of Bible reading groups. As a result, many people are coming to Christ and churches are growing.
A HEARING FOR THE GOSPEL: In Cambodia, thousands of people who cannot read are listening to God’s Word on hand-held, solar-powered devices we provided. In Uganda, we are supplying hundreds of church workers with Bibles and training them to share the Gospel in illiterate communities by telling Bible stories.
Jesus said, “He who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24, NKJV). Samaritan’s Purse touches millions of lives every year, and we want to make sure that each one of them has the opportunity to respond to the life-giving Word of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Your faithful prayers and gifts are vital to this ministry and the people we serve. Thank you, and may God bless you.
Sincerely,

President
