God has been preparing Dr. Linda Chan-Gadd for service with an international calling since childhood.
Linda was born in Burma, raised in Hong Kong, went to medical school in England, and did her residency in the United States. Her husband, Daniel, is an engineer from New Zealand.
Linda entered World Medical Mission’s Post-Residency Program in 2008. She is serving with Samaritan's Purse for two years at Hope Medical Clinic in Macau.
She had just arrived when Cyclone Nargis slammed into Myanmar, killing and injuring thousands. Medical and relief workers worldwide offered to help, but only a handful were granted visas. Linda was among them.
“It was humbling to witness how our mighty God opened seemingly closed doors,” she said. “Many international aid workers had been denied access to the country. However, our entire team was issued visas. Our Father gave us precious opportunities to set up clinics in different locations within a one-hour radius of Yangon. Over 1,300 patients were seen during the week in a school used as a temporary shelter for refuges, an orphanage, a Bible college, and in rural communities.”
Just 10 days after the cyclone swept through Myanmar, neighboring China was hit with disaster. An 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck Sichuan Province near Chengdu. Again, thousands of people were killed or injured and emergency relief and medical aid were needed. Linda was on her way to China.
“We spent the majority of our time serving in rural villages affected by the quake,” Linda said. “Over the three days that medical clinics were held, we served about 300 patients in five different locations.”
Linda felt blessed that God used her to help the hurting in China and Myanmar.
“Our Father taught me the truth of His words in Psalm 34:18: ‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit,’ she said. “Amen!”
- For survivors of the two disasters who are struggling to rebuild their lives and communities.
- That people who lost loved ones will be drawn to the Lord as they seek comfort.
- That God will continue to work through Samaritan’s Purse to minister in China and Myanmar.
