In addition to offering free testing and counseling for adults, our HIV/AIDS programs in Honduras include Biblically-based abstinence and behavior change programs for youth.

For years, David lived with constant fear. He knew his behavior had put him at a high risk of contracting HIV, and he was almost certain that he had the deadly disease. He was so sure, in fact, that he resisted getting tested for the virus because he did not want others to know.
While reading the newspaper one day, David saw an advertisement with an invitation for a free rapid HIV test at the Samaritan Center in his hometown of San Pedro Sula. The ad said that counseling would be provided, and most importantly, all test results would be strictly confidential.
David set the paper aside, but as he went about his day he kept seeing the ad—in an open newspaper on the bus seat next to him, in a discarded paper on the sidewalk, and at his workplace. By evening, he decided to get tested.
David received counseling before his test. A Samaritan’s Purse staff member talked to him about the possible results. He was told how to avoid the disease if the test revealed that he was negative, and he was assured that he would not have to deal with his condition alone if he found out he was positive
The counselor also shared the Gospel with David, and before the end of the session he prayed to receive Jesus Christ as Savior.
Buoyed by his new commitment to Christ, David took the test and within a short time he learned that his result was negative. He excitedly returned to work and told his co-workers about the Samaritan Center. The next day, he was first in line, bringing one of his friends from work to get tested.
As he introduced his co-worker to the counselor David said, “I want him to know his HIV status, and I want him to hear the Gospel just like I did.”
- That those who live in fear of having the disease will be tested so they can learn their status and receive care.
- For the staff of the Samaritan Center as they teach Biblically-based strategies for dealing with HIV/AIDS.
- That many would come to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the Samaritan Center.
