Three-year-old Ayushmaa had one desire—to walk. Cerebral palsy had wracked the bright and talkative little girl’s body so much that she could not sit up without assistance.
Last April, Ayushmaa and her mother, Shurentsetseg, heard about a program co-sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse that provides physical therapy to children whose families have no access to such services at a facility called the Developmental Center.
They traveled 14 hours by train to Ulan Bator, the capital city of Mongolia. The staff had Ayushmaa participate in exercises to straighten her legs and back and improve her balance.
During their two-week stay, Ayushmaa and Shurentsetseg heard the Gospel for the first time. They went to devotions each morning and Bible studies in the afternoon. Shurentsetseg listened with great interest and joy, and she prayed to receive Jesus as her Savior.
Ayushmaa received an answer to prayer also. By the end of the therapy sessions, she was able to walk—albeit with help. The mother and daughter returned to their home village with a Bible, therapy equipment, and a new walker for Ayushmaa.
The pastor and other members from a nearby evangelical church asked if they could come to visit Ayushmaa. Shurentsetseg invited her neighbors and friends so they too could hear the Good News that had changed her life.
“I told them that the ‘Jesus Teachers’ were coming and that they needed to be here,” she explained.
They asked many questions as the church leaders told them about the Son of God Who came to earth to give His life as a sacrifice for sins. Three people prayed to receive Jesus.
Ayushmaa recently returned to the Developmental Center for a follow-up visit. She has progressed to walking with crutches. And Shurentsetseg is gaining strength in her walk with Christ.
“I want my house to be filled with my neighbors, all studying the Bible together!” she said.
- That Shurentsetseg will continue to grow in her faith and play a leading role in leading her neighbors to faith in Jesus.
- For the staff at the Developmental Center as they provide physical and spiritual help to their patients.
- That everyone helped by Samaritan's Purse projects in Mongolia will see the love of God.
