Turmoil in South Sudan
Samaritan’s Purse is providing emergency relief to the violence-plagued country
The world’s newest nation erupted into full-scale bloodshed on December 15 when political and tribal tensions brought the violence-plagued country to the brink of civil war. Caught in the crossfire were hundreds of thousands of innocent people.
Those who escaped the fighting fled to camps within South Sudan or escaped into neighboring countries such as Uganda. The fragile nation has settled into a tenuous ceasefire, but nearly 1 million men, women, and children remain homeless, forced to live in deplorable conditions. The shortage of food, clean water, and hope is creased into each worried face.
Despite the ever-present danger of renewed violence, Samaritan’s Purse is providing emergency food and clean water to displaced families. At the same time, we maintain our feeding, water, and medical care programs for refugees who have fled violence in Sudan.
