A case of malaria, a minor infection, or the birth of a baby can turn deadly for rural villagers living hours away from the nearest medical facility. Sadly, tens of millions of people in developing countries live in exactly these circumstances and lack access to the quality healthcare they desperately need.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Christian mission hospitals, however, fill this need by providing free or minimal cost medical treatment to impoverished people in remote areas while also sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with their patients. Yet because these hospitals operate with relatively limited resources, they require financial assistance to make important upgrades or replace aging buildings. Some have simply outgrown their facilities and seek to offer more services, whether it be the addition of patient beds, giving the laboratory a facelift, or installing diagnostic equipment.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Samaritan\u2019s Purse has helped to renovate and expand several mission hospitals during the past decade. In 2016, we partnered with Serving in Mission (SIM) to build a new 46,000-square-foot medical complex at ELWA Hospital in Liberia<\/a>. The project included construction of patient wards with 75 beds, operating theaters, and an emergency room. In 2015, we built a maternity ward at CME\/Nyankunde Hospital in Democratic Republic of the Congo. We have also assisted with the construction of medical facilities in India and Bangladesh.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

When a laboratory was constructed at ECWA Hospital in Egbe, Nigeria, in 2014, the new building more than tripled the hospital\u2019s capacity to perform testing. Now the staff can conduct over 70 tests per day, and patients from surrounding communities do not need to travel a minimum of three hours to another medical facility.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
