Missouri Volunteer Motivated by Jesus\u2019 Last Words<\/h1>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Springfield area resident fulfills dream to reach children for Christ through Operation Christmas Child.<\/h3>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Jill Cobb of Mountain View, Missouri, does what she does because she’s focused on Christ\u2019s final words on earth, which begin: \u201cGo and make disciples of all the nations\u201d (Matthew 28:19, NKJV).<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

She volunteers as an area coordinator for Operation Christmas Child and consistently mentors her team of 55 people to stay focused on why they serve. The group\u2019s goal is to \u201cmobilize people and multiply shoebox gifts\u201d and their motivation must remain reaching children with the Gospel. <\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Jill wants to filter everything her team does through this priority. \u201cThere\u2019s so much to do. It\u2019s easy to focus on details instead of realizing why I\u2019m doing it\u2014for Jesus and the Great Commission,\u201d Jill said.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

This big-picture perspective is impacting the results of their efforts. In 2016, the official shoebox collection goal for the 18 counties in their area was 38,000. <\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

\u201cWe prayed that we\u2019d be able to describe that year in two words: only God,\u201d Jill said. The Lord then surprised them with a total of 41,359 shoebox gifts! Some churches in their area actually collected twice their goal amount. <\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

In 2017 their collection totaled 43,816. The group gives God the glory that each one of these boxes\u2014each of these Gospel opportunities\u2014will bless children, their families, and their communities.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Jill isn\u2019t involved because of the numbers. She volunteers with Operation Christmas Child because \u201cmy passion is evangelism and the desire to see one more person come to Jesus.\u201d <\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Secondarily, she serves in order to model Christ\u2019s heart to her children, ages 10 and 7. Jill wants to teach them to be \u201con mission\u201d at an early age. \u201cTo see their hearts grow for children around the world to come to Jesus has challenged me to go deeper in my faith, too,\u201d Jill said. <\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

God Uses People to Accomplish His Purposes<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

A former mentor of Jill\u2019s, Winnie Tuckness, serves as a regional area coordinator overseeing three Operation Christmas Child area teams. A few years ago, as Winnie drove US Highway 60 from Springfield to Nashville, Tennessee, she noticed First Baptist Church in Mountain View, Missouri, and thought it would be a good place for a shoebox drop-off location. When she noticed Matt Cobb was the pastor, she wondered if this could be Jill\u2019s husband. She hadn\u2019t had contact with the couple for 10 years.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Jill shows her enthusiasm for Operation Christmas Child. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Calling the church, she discovered it was in fact the same Matt and Jill Cobb whom she’d known years ago. This led to a reunion with the couple, and Winnie asked Jill if she would be interested in volunteering with Operation Christmas Child. She served in logistics first, and in 2016 became the area coordinator for the Springfield, Missouri Area Team. <\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

During her interview for that position, Jill was reminded of a vision she\u2019d had 10 years earlier of 1 billion people being saved during her lifetime. She shed tears of joy when she realized that, through Operation Christmas Child, she could have a small part in this becoming a reality. <\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

\u201cJill is a gifted leader with such a passion and spiritual maturity,\u201d Winnie said. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to see how God is using her.\u201d <\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Jill quickly added, \u201cI\u2019m thankful God chooses to use us. It\u2019s not that we\u2019re amazing\u2014through His grace and mercy He uses us.\u201d <\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t
