JoAnn Pyer - Lafayette, IN

JoAnn Louise Pyer, 88, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018, in Evansville at the home of her daughter.

She was born on May 24, 1930, in Scott City, Kansas, to the late Charles and Frieda (Jeffries) Brooks.

JoAnn graduated from Arkansas City High School in Arkansas City, Kansas, in 1948. On Dec. 17, 1948, she married Ronald L. Pyer in Arkansas City. He preceded her in death in 2001.

JoAnn was a homemaker and co-owner of Harmony Candle Maker in New Harmony, Indiana. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young newlywed and spent her life serving her Lord and others. She loved studying the Bible and teaching it to others, especially young wives and mothers. She loved her husband dearly, as well as her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. JoAnn never met a stranger and brought joy to those around her.

Surviving are a son, John (Dolores) Pyer of Lafayette; daughters Paula (Randy) Pyer-Alder of Evansville, Lee Ann (Greg) Deason of Frankenmuth, Michigan, and Ronda (John) McKinnis of Lafayette; sisters Darlene McGee of Wichita, Kansas, and Carol (Tom) Hadorn of Wellington Heights, Kansas; and a brother, Jerry (Barbara) Goforth of Kansas. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

JoAnn was preceded in death by brothers, Wilfred Brooks and Charles Goforth, and a great-grandson, Aiden Peckenpaugh.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018, at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Boulevard, Lafayette, with Pastor Trey Garner officiating. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
