MCM offers ophthalmologic, dental and hemo-dialysis services as part of community health programs. Long term expatriate staff include three American general surgeons, one American FP,  two Korean OBGs, one US pathologist, one Norwegian plastic surgeon, one Korean neurosurgeon, one US orthopedic surgeon, one Canadian pediatric surgeon, one Korean nephrologist, one Korean radiologist, one Korean ophthalmologist and one Korean dentist. There are approximately 30 Ethiopian GPs and specialists.

Fly by commercial air to the city of Addis Ababa. It is a short drive on paved roads to the hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, volunteers are briefed by one of the physicians they will be working with. A short tour of the hospital is given by one of the hospital administrators or a physician. Further orientation is provided by a chaplain and inter-action with expatriate and national staff.

Amharic is the official language. Also spoken are English, Somali, Arabic and many others. There are 86 languages spoken in Ethiopia.

Myungsung Christian Medical Center  is a Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons or PAACS program participant.   The PAACS program has established surgical training programs at Christian hospitals in Africa.

The hospital has also established a Family Medicine/Internal Medicine training program for Ethiopian/African medical students.  Short term volunteers in internal medicine and sub-specialties are urgently needed to teach in the newly established academic program and  should understand that teaching rather than clinical work is their primary goal. The curriculum is similar to the United States with both formal lecturing and hands-on clinical teaching. World Medical Mission will provide volunteers contact information for direct contact with hospital field staff prior to arrival to prepare for their teaching role.

The individual volunteer is responsible for all costs associated with the trip. World Medical Mission personnel will provide assistance in arranging all travel including international flights and in-country travel as well as any needed medical licenses, visas or permits.
