Tenwek Hospital, Kenya – Radiology

Tenwek Hospital – Kenya — Tenwek Hospital located in Bomet, Kenya is a 300 bed referral hospital with a wide range of surgical, medical, maternity and pediatric services.  Tenwek participates in a general surgery residency program (PAACS) and a family medicine program which allows volunteers to come that are interested in teaching residents. A minimum service of two weeks plus travel is required; one month service or longer is preferred. Tenwek is a very family friendly location.

Tenwek has two X-ray machines in the Radiology Department as well as Portable and C-arm fluoroscopy.  There is a 4-channel Toshiba CT scanner and 6 Ultrasound machines including echocardiography at Tenwek.  These images are stored and viewed on a hospital-wide PACS system called Clear Canvas.  Interventional procedures such as biopsies or drainages are performed according to the ability of the on-site Radiologist.  CT exams are interpreted by a visiting on-site Radiologist (40 weeks/year) or via Teleradiology connection at other times.

The individual volunteer is responsible for all costs associated with the trip. World Medical Mission personnel will provide assistance in arranging all travel including international flights and in-country travel as well as any needed medical licenses, visas or permits.
