During a home visit by a Samaritan’s Purse ministry team in Bolivia, Nelson rededicated his life to Jesus Christ. He now disciples others.

Nelson, a 26-year-old commercial farmer in Palca, Bolivia, heard the Gospel a few years ago and gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. But he never became involved in a local church.

“My work and the influence of my friends became a distraction,” Nelson said.

All that changed when a ministry team from Samaritan’s Purse visited Nelson, his wife Lucy, and their two children. Our team shared the Gospel with the young couple in their home and read to them from God’s Word. As a result, Nelson rededicated his life to the Lord and became eager to learn more about the Bible. He even wanted to take formal theology classes. But, in addition to a long commute, the expense of attending seminary in distant La Paz simply made it impossible.

Nelson was soon to learn, however, that with God all things are possible. The Samaritan’s Purse team informed him that professors from two partner theological institutes in La Paz were planning to travel to Palca once a month to teach Bible classes.

“We never had a support like this who would train us in discipleship,” Nelson said, who signed up to take courses. “Now we understand and know the importance of serving the Lord, our neighbors, and the surrounding community through practical services.”

Nelson is now active in a local church. He takes on teaching responsibilities whenever his pastor, who lives in La Paz, is unable to travel to Palca. He also disciples others on an ongoing basis, using “The Church’s Task,” a resource provided by Samaritan’s Purse.

“The experience I am having with God motivates me to serve,” Nelson said. “I see the needs of the other communities, and I feel called by God to go share His Word.”
