Nutrition Training Saves Lives

noviembre 27, 2015 • Democratic Republic of the Congo
Sura Tatayo has five children of her own and cares for her nephew. They live off of the crops harvested by her husband.

The terrible events caused by the Lord’s Resistance Army in 2008 destabilized our lives. We were displaced. When peace returned to our town, we returned too, but we learned that it wouldn’t be easy to adapt to our new lives. Our children regularly became sick, and I knew nothing about caring for them nutritionally. We were limited in our health care, so our fourth son died in 2009.

Nutrition Training Saves Lives

Sura sits with one of her healthy children.

Since Samaritan’s Purse organized health lessons in our community and my peers elected me to be a leader mother, I have learned many things that have enabled me to provide healthy food for my family and recognize the signs of malnutrition. Our family and community are gradually improving. I’m able to support my family nutritionally and educate the women in my community. The training has greatly helped my children’s physical development. If I had known this information earlier, I wouldn’t have lost my son in 2009.

Also, Samaritan’s Purse shares the Gospel with us, which continues to transform our spiritual life and reinforce our Christian faith. We have the opportunity to hear the Word of God and put it into practice. I’m now equipped to preach the Gospel to other women in my community and incorporate biblical themes into my health trainings.

Proyectos DRC
