Samaritan’s Purse distributed emergency relief supplies to families in the Philippines affected by Typhoon Tembin. The late December typhoon triggered landslides and floods that killed more than 200 people. At least 150 people are still missing and thousands are homeless.

One of the hardest-hit areas was Mindanao island in the southern Philippines, where our teams distributed relief items to more than 200 families in early January. We provided rice and non-food items such as household water filtration kits and hygiene kits.

“The conditions of the survivors and the challenges they faced were so real,” said local partner and pastor Percy Lagman.

Pastor Percy has participated in the Samaritan’s Purse Hazard Area Readiness Training project, which helps equip local partners to respond quickly and effectively during a crisis. Typhoon Tembin was the pastor’s first response after completing the training.

“We must be prepared and willing to act immediately and to bring help to others,” he said.

For Pastor Percy, the typhoon response was an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love to hurting people.

“As Christians, we are the light of the world. We have to share God’s love,” he said. “We must be ready to give and to be a blessing to people.”

We continue to provide relief to survivors in need in the Philippines. Please pray for this response.
