Heavy rainfall has disrupted the lives of hundreds of families.
Samaritan’s Purse is responding to Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, where torrential rainfall caused severe flash flooding. Local rivers and their tributaries, including the Menomonee River, rose to record levels, causing widespread flooding that affected as many as 500 homes across multiple communities. Vehicles were washed away, residences were soaked, and as many as 2,000 homes were left without power.
North American Ministries staff are on the ground working with local emergency management and church partners to assess needs as we prepare to assist in the area.
As we begin to deploy volunteers in the coming days, we will work out of our base of operations at our host church—Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Clean up work is scheduled to start over the weekend.
U.S. Disaster Relief Unit #3—a tractor-trailer packed with relief supplies and equipment—along with other support equipment departed from our warehouse in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, on Tuesday evening, August 12.
Volunteers will help homeowners clean out flooded houses—removing ruined walls and flooring, treating interiors for mold, and clearing out waterlogged furniture and belongings. Teams will also help residents recover cherished belongings and keepsakes not destroyed by the floodwaters, all while sharing the love and hope found only in Jesus Christ.
