One of our Disaster Relief Units is headed to southwest Colorado to help homeowners recover from recent floods. Volunteers will soon start work in the impacted communities.
A series of storms coming off the Pacific rolled through Colorado over the past several days, dumping a historic amount of rainfall in the southwest corner of the state. The rains prompted hundreds of evacuations as rivers overflowed their banks and levees were breached. Scores of homes flooded.
These downpours came as the remnants of tropical storms Priscilla and Raymond made their way across the American Southwest. La Plata and Archuleta counties in Colorado were among the hardest hit locations.
Samaritan’s Purse is responding to these devastated communities in southwest Colorado. Disaster Relief Unit 6 (DRU)—a tractor-trailer filled with relief supplies and equipment—is on its way to Colorado from our Southwest Ministry Center in Coppell, Texas, to support this response.
Our army of dedicated volunteers will soon start on the ground, helping hurting homeowners recover in Jesus’ Name. Teams will be sent into the communities to mud-out flooded homes, remove soiled drywall and flooring, and salvage personal belongings—all the while sharing the love of God with each family devastated by the floods.
As our response takes shape, continue to visit samaritanspurse.org for updates. A host church and volunteer start date will soon be announced.
Pray that the families of southwest Colorado know God’s peace during these difficult times.
