18 Kentucky Families Receive New Homes from Samaritan's Purse After Deadly 2022 Flood

BOONE, N.C., Dec. 4, 2025 —Three years ago, catastrophic flooding tore through eastern Kentucky—claiming more than 40 lives and leaving entire communities devastated. This Friday, just in time for Christmas, Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse, will be in Knott County to welcome 18 families into brand-new homes built and provided at no cost by the Christian, international disaster relief organization. The dedication will mark a significant milestone in the region's long road to recovery and a powerful example of God's love and hope for the families still recovering.

Samaritan's Purse constructed these homes in the Chestnut Ridge neighborhood, a 57-lot subdivision being built from the ground up to restore stability, hope, and to show these families who lost everything that God has not forgotten them. Thirteen homes are move-in ready, with five additional homes scheduled to be dedicated next week after final inspections. Each fully furnished home—built by Samaritan's Purse staff and dedicated volunteers—stands as a tangible expression of God's love and faithfulness. Samaritan's Purse has committed to fully furnishing every home in the Chestnut Ridge community.

“We thank God for the opportunity to dedicate these 18, newly built homes in Jesus' Name,” said Franklin Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan's Purse. “These families have endured unimaginable loss and many fled with only the clothes on their backs. We want them to know they are not forgotten. God loves them and He has not left their side. I pray each of these homes becomes a blessing to their families for generations to come.”

Samaritan's Purse and its army of volunteers responded to the flooding in 2022, helping more than 620 families mud out flooded homes, clear debris and recover from the storm. More than 2,000 volunteers served over 54,000 hours over the course of three months. Following the disaster response, Samaritan’s Purse launched its rebuild program.
