Mr. Andy Burke Giddens, 73, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Piedmont Henry Hospital. He was born in Hawkinsville, Georgia, the son of the late Charles J. Giddens and Charlie Ann Bailey Giddens.
Andy dedicated his career to education and investing in the next generation, beginning as a teacher and coach at Hawkinsville High School. From there, he continued shaping young lives at Cochran High School before moving north to Forest Park Junior High School, where he served as assistant principal. His leadership and steady presence later led him to Forest Park Senior High School, where he ultimately stepped into the role of principal.
In 1999, Andy made what would be his final professional transition when he became principal of Henry County High School. He served the Henry County community faithfully in that role until his retirement in 2010. Through decades of service, he was known to many as Mr. Giddens, principal Giddens, or coach Giddens, titles that reflected his commitment, discipline, and heart for students. He led with integrity, fairness, and genuine care for the young people entrusted to him.
While his professional accomplishments were many, Andy would say his greatest pride came from his most cherished titles, Dad and Papa. He deeply loved his sons and adored being a grandfather, embracing those roles with joy, patience, and pride. He was always present, encouraging, and unwavering in his love for his family.
Andy found peace outdoors. He enjoyed walking, hiking, and golfing, appreciating the simple gift of time spent outside. His faith was also central to his life. A devoted member of Eagles Landing First Baptist Church, Andy was active in the men’s group and faithfully served through natural disaster relief efforts and various outreach committees, always looking for ways to help others and live out his faith through action.
Andy Giddens will be remembered as a steady leader, a mentor to many, a man of faith, and a loving father and papa. His influence lives on in the countless lives he shaped and the family he loved so well, including his sons, Matt Giddens (Allison) and Ben Giddens; his grandchildren, Madison and AJ; sister, Ramona Giddens Holbrook (Michael); niece, Tasha Armistead; great-nieces and nephew, Mary Grace, Jack, and Anna; Matt and Ben’s Mom, Kathy Giddens; best friend, Susan Patrick; as well as several extended family members and friends. He will also be missed by a host of colleagues and students who will remember his impact.
A service to honor his life will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, beginning 10:30 a.m., at Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church, 2400 GA-42 N, McDonough, Georgia 30253. Interment will take place at Union Hill Church Cemetery in Cochran, Georgia.
