In Memory Of
Barbara Nell Stone - Dallas, TX

Barbara Nell Paine Stone, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and lifelong believer in Jesus Christ, passed away on August 4, 2024, at the age of 93.

Born on February 24, 1931, in Maryville, Tennessee, Barbara was the daughter of Perry Peyton Paine and Maude Laganda Davis. She graduated from Maryville High School and went on to attend Maryville College and Converse College in South Carolina.

Throughout her life, Barbara pursued many passions, including playing the piano, singing in the choir, hiking in the Smoky Mountains, and spending time at the family's floating cabin on Lake Fontana in North Carolina. However, her greatest joy came from interacting with her 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, playing games with them, taking them on adventures, and supporting them in their musical, artistic, and athletic activities.

Barbara's faith was central to her life. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist church, and for many years she and Irv ministered to young adults and young married couples, first at the First Baptist Church in Dallas, and later at Prestonwood Baptist Church. In her later years, Barbara and Irv attended Park Cities Baptist, where she was active in Sunday School and Women’s Bible Study.

In 1955, Barbara married Irv Stone, and together they lived in California, Virginia, Maryland, and finally settled in Dallas in 1968, where they remained until her passing.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Irv; her sons, R. Dary Stone (Melinda), Mark A. Stone (Deborah), and Kenneth C. Stone (Elizabeth Ann); as well as her sister, Marlene Alton of North Carolina; brother, George Paine (Pat) of Knoxville, Tennessee; and sister-in-law, Deanna Paine of Maryville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Kathryn McConnell and Perry Peyton Paine, Jr.

A memorial service celebrating Barbara's life will be held in Ellis Chapel at Park Cities Baptist Church, at 2:00 p.m., on August 31, 2024.
