Barbara Spaulding Cox - West Jefferson, NC

Barbara Sue (Spaulding) Cox, 81, of West Jefferson, North Carolina, died in the peace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the early afternoon on November 23, 2022, in Durham, North Carolina.

Born in Fleetwood, North Carolina, to Robert Houston and Vivian Christine (Walker) Spaulding on May 15, 1941, Barbara moved to Central Florida in 1959 where she worked for a time in the new and emerging space industry. There, she met and married C. Lee Cox, a missile inspector for General Dynamics. Together they raised two children, Brandon Lee and Bronwyn Sue, in Cocoa, Florida, and fostered several young children. Lee and Barbara then returned to live in Ashe County, becoming faithful members of Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church in Jefferson, North Carolina. Barbara retired from her employment at SkyLine-SkyBest of Ashe County. She also served in her community as an elections volunteer, and was a courageous cancer survivor.

A devoted wife, mother, and mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and a woman of strong faith, she is survived by her husband of 62 years and her children, daughter, Bronwyn Cox of Durham, North Carolina; and son, Brandon Cox (Heather) and (grand)daughters Abigail and Amelia Cox, all of Rockledge, Florida.

She is also survived by sister, Bobbie Lee (Spaulding) Hartzog Teague of Fleetwood, North Carolina; and brother, Dr. D. Travis Spaulding of Orlando, Florida; aunt, Mary Elizabeth (Walker) Barnette of Lenoir, North Carolina; two nieces, Amber Stewart and Tamara Willey, both of Madison, Alabama; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and brother, Houston Keith Spaulding (Helen) and nephew Houston Keith Spaulding Jr.

Barbara and her contagious cheerful spirit was dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed.
