In Memory Of
Dr. Andy Norman - Manchester, TN

Andy Norman was born to Murray and Mickey Norman in Lincoln County, Georgia in 1951. Despite living around the world for much of his life, he always called Lincolnton home.

Andy attended The University of Georgia for his undergraduate studies followed by medical school at the Medical College of Georgia where he was trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Lord had laid on his heart from a young age that he wanted to spend his life sharing the good news of the Gospel through medical missions. Andy married Judy in 1975. They lived in Boone, North Carolina for many years until the Lord opened doors for them to serve with the International Mission Board. At that time, they moved to Nigeria in 1989 with their girls, Sara Beth, Amy, and Cat. Andy and Judy served there for 12 years before moving to Nashville for a role in the Global Health Department at Vanderbilt University.

When Andy was 62 years old, he decided to take an early retirement. He wanted to get back to using his medical gifts in countries around the world to help women who had been injured in childbirth. Over the following decade, Andy made over 75 trips to various countries around the world–Guyana, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Somaliland, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Nicaragua, Madagascar, Benin, Niger, Uganda, Malawi, Guinea, Senegal, and Guatemala–serving with organizations like Samaritan’s Purse, World Medical Mission and Mercy Ships. On these trips, it was his heart to aid women through restorative surgeries and to teach national surgeons usable skills.

In 2024 Andy was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The final years of his life were a testament to how many people he impacted through his life. There were countless visits and messages from those who loved him. Andy’s hope has always been in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Because of Christ’s death on the cross, Andy knew he need not fear death. In his final days he sang old Gospel hymns about heaven to himself. What a gift to Andy that the Lord took him Home on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.
