John Robert Templeton (Bob) , age 77, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, peacefully went home to be with the Lord in the early hours of Saturday, October 5, 2024. He was at home surrounded by his wife, two daughters and beloved dog, Jack.
Bob was born August 16, 1947, to Colonel Floyd Avon Templeton and Margulien Holland Templeton. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1965 and played college basketball at Montreat Anderson College. It was there that he met and married a cheerleader named Jo Ellen Clark. Bob completed his business degree at Mars Hill College and joined the United States Army shortly after his graduation. He was stationed in Ansbach, Germany and Jo was able to join him there.
Bob had a successful career of 40+ years in the corrugated box industry working in Jamestown, North Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia, Spartanburg, South Carolina, Huntsville, Alabama, and Lexington, North Carolina. Bob returned to Spartanburg in 1995 and rose to be an executive vice president with Timbar Corporation.
After retiring, Bob, Jo and Jack enjoyed spending time at their farm building deer stands, bush hogging and enjoying the beauty of nature. Bob’s favorite hobbies also included reading, crossword puzzles, riding his Harley, golfing and watching Shark Week.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and enjoyed their Sunday school class, serving in the nursery and supporting the spread of the gospel through The Encouraging Word ministry.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Jo Ellen Clark Templeton; his brother, Steven David Templeton; and sister, Susan Templeton Neaves (Chuck). He is also survived by his daughters, Amy Templeton Causey (Steven) and Allison Templeton Webber (Stephen); his grandchildren, Tanner Causey, Caroline Causey, Anna Causey, Matthew Webber, Emily Webber, and his faithful companion and beloved dog, Jack.
A visitation will be held at the family home from 10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. on October 19, 2024, with a private family service and luncheon afterward. Reverend Brian Redding will be officiating from First Baptist Church.
