Richard Herman “Dick” Sievers passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Dick was born November 6, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, to Herman and Edna (Schuetz) Sievers and grew up on a farm in Peotone, Illinois.
After graduating from Peotone Community High School in 1950, he met his lifelong sweetheart, Helen Sandeen. They were married in October of 1954, and established their home in Joliet, Illinois. After gaining job experience in the factory, delivery, and management sectors, Dick found his passion in the building industry. He launched Sievers Construction, first installing kitchen cabinets, then moving on to larger remodeling projects, and finally to new home construction. He always took pride in his work and was known for his attention to detail and quality construction. He moved to Minooka, Illinois, in 1977, and eventually served as a village board member there.
Dick’s true passion though was in serving God, whether by lending a helping hand to someone in need, serving on a church board, building a church building, or leading a Bible study. He helped to plant Larkin Baptist Church, Minooka Bible Church, and Living Word Bible Church during his lifetime, and always took joy in sharing what God had done in his life with others.
Dick is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Sievers; three children, Dawn Heisler, Douglas (Deborah) Sievers, and Jill Eaton; 11 grandchildren, Rebecca (Jared) Bell, Ryan (Katie) Sievers, Kara Sievers, Brittany (Rommel) Alonzo, Christa (Jeremiah) Truhlar, Heidi (Brent) Bessler, Elise Heisler, Laura Heisler, Katryna Heisler, Heather (Jeremy) Williams, and Amanda Johnson; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Viola Jones, Ruth Nelson, and Donald Sievers; sons-in-law, Michael Heisler and Robert Eaton; and a granddaughter, Kristen Sievers.
Please join us in celebrating Richard’s life on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Mission Bible Church, Minooka, Illinois. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m., with the service at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon after.
