Sharon Ann Chafee, 72, went to be with our Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at her home in Cumming, Georgia. She was born April 3, 1952, in Glens Falls, New York, daughter of the late Samuel Arthur and Vera Frances (Scarriet) Howard.
She attended Schroon Lake Central School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the chorus. Sharon went on to graduate from Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York, in 1974. While in college, Sharon met Floyd Chafee. They married on April 27, 1974. They had three sons, Paul, John and Seth. Sharon was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to her family.
Sharon became a member of the Yorkshire Free Methodist Church in Yorkshire, New York, taking on numerous roles throughout the church. Sharon joined the worship team and quickly became a Sunday morning staple at the piano. She led Sunday school classes, hosted small groups and mentored young couples. Sharon eventually took a job as the church’s executive assistant, working hard behind the scenes to help make things run optimally.
Sharon leaned into her role as a wife and mother, making sure her family ran optimally as well. She made and mended clothing, gutted and remodeled much of her home, homeschooled her children for many years, and took on a job teaching at Central Baptist Christian School during her youngest’s final school years.
Sharon and Floyd moved to Cumming, Georgia, in 2020, and began settling into a new life in a new place. She could often be found hiking the Sawnee Mountain trail near her home. Sharon loved being near her family and exploring new places and she developed some remarkable friendships over her few years in Georgia, but she never forgot her friends and family in New York and made a point of staying in touch and visiting as she could.
Sharon was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Chafee.
She is survived by her sons, Paul Chafee of Arcade, New York, John and Gennie Chafee of Cumming, Georgia, and Seth and Mandi Chafee of Cumming, Georgia; her sister, Kathleen Tyrrell and husband, Richard Tyrrell of Castleton-on-Hudson, New York; and her sister, Carol Dulak and husband, Karl Dulak of Cotuit, Massachusetts; her grandchildren, Eric Samuel Chafee of Chaffee, New York, Ella May Chafee of Cumming, Georgia, Levi Joseph Chafee of Cumming, Georgia, and Micah Seth Chafee of Cumming, Georgia, and multiple great-nieces and nephews.
