A Safe Place

Mavita is 14 years old and is displaced from her home in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

War is a threat that affects children and brings misfortune into our lives—epidemics, trauma, mental health problems, violence, and news full of shocking images.

A Safe Place

Mavita at the Samaritan’s Pure ministry program

My name, Mavita, means a child born during war. There has been war in Urumu for 15 years, which is my whole life. I had to move to another town because of the fighting. I lost both of my parents, and now I live with my uncle. Right now, I’m not in school because I don’t have the money to pay the fees.

I started attending a Samaritan’s Purse ministry program for children in May. There I have a safe place to play, sing, read the Bible, listen to stories, and watch plays with other children my age. We also get to eat porridge and biscuits.

I thank the Lord for the projects that Samaritan’s Purse has done in my area, like seed distributions and agricultural projects. These programs help us to have more food. Most importantly, I’m thankful for the way Samaritan’s Purse is supporting me in my relationship with God, my neighbors, and my community.
