Samaritan’s Purse U.S. Disaster Relief has deployed to Greensboro, North Carolina, after an EF-2 tornado packing 135-mph winds caused extensive damage there.

Oportunidades de Voluntariado

We have dispatched one of our Disaster Relief Units—a tractor-trailer packed with disaster relief supplies and equipment—to the city.

Grace Community Church, at 643 W. Gate City Blvd., is serving as our host during this response. Our teams are coming alongside hurting homeowners to chainsaw downed trees, install shelter tarp on top of damaged roofs, and clear debris. We are currently accepting both overnight and day volunteers.

Our Disaster Relief Unit is now in Greensboro.

Our Disaster Relief Unit is now at our church base in Greensboro.

Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains are joining our staff and volunteers, providing spiritual and emotional care to homeowners.

The east side of Greensboro suffered extensive damage in the Sunday afternoon storm. One person was killed when a tree fell on his moving vehicle. Two other people were injured.

The tornado uprooted trees, tore off roofs, and destroyed mobile units. More than 300 homes were affected by the powerful winds. Multiple city streets had to be closed due to damage. Sixteen schools and more than 21,000 people are still without power in the Gate City, a Greensboro moniker stemming from its railway hub roots.

Please pray for those affected by the storm and ask God to use our staff and volunteers to bring comfort and meet the physical needs of homeowners in Jesus’ Name.
