Samaritan’s Purse is responding in Kentucky and Missouri after deadly tornadoes tore through the areas starting late on Friday, May 16. More than 25 people are dead in the wake of the storm system, which spawned dozens of twisters and left destruction across parts of the eastern United States. Thousands of homes are damaged or destroyed. The twister in Missouri ranked as an EF3 storm, while the long-track tornado to hit Laurel and Pulaski counties in Kentucky was an EF4, with winds over 170 mph.

Two U.S. Disaster Relief units—tractor trailers filled with relief supplies and equipment—have been deployed to Laurel County, Kentucky, and St. Louis County, Missouri.

Disaster Relief Unit #7 has set up a base of operations at Calvary Baptist Church in London, Kentucky. Volunteers started serving on Monday morning, May 19. Disaster Relief Unit #4 is based out of Bonhomme Presbyterian Church in Chesterfield, Missouri. Volunteers started 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20.

Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains have also deployed to these areas to provide emotional support and to share the Gospel with many hurting people.

Many volunteers are urgently needed to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ for hurting communities. Teams working in His Name are tarping damaged roofs, cutting up fallen trees, and removing debris from homes and property. Samaritan’s Purse volunteers also have opportunities to encourage homeowners and share the hope found only in the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.
