Seeking God for Peace

An intern in the Philippines sees God comforting survivors of Typhoon Haiyan

Katelyn Holmberg is an intern with Samaritan’s Purse in the Philippines.

For most of the world, Typhoon Haiyan lasted less than a day when it struck the Philippines in November 2013. But for the people of Tacloban, it sometimes feels like the storm has never ended. Even after a year, the impact of the storm lingers as survivors struggle to rebuild their lives.

Here in Tacloban, I feel blessed to be used by the Lord to help the survivors of the storm.

When I came in August, I wasn’t prepared for the struggles I would have with the culture, work, and more. However, God has taught me that His grace and strength are sufficient despite whatever challenges arise. During the past few months, the Lord has shown me how I can only find true comfort and rest in Him.

In Him, I can find peace despite the small storms that I face. He has shown His faithfulness, strength, and comfort to the survivors here, and He has shown the same to me through this internship. Moving forward, I know that I can rely on the Lord for strength and comfort when I am in any of life’s storms.

He is and will be my peace while winds roar and the waves rage on. I can seek after Him, for He cares for me. “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him,” (Nahun 1:7, NKJV).
