Gilbert "Bud" Tinney, 85, of Grand Rapids passed away on February 20, 2023. Born November 16, 1937, in Evanston, Illinois, he will be lovingly remembered by Margee, his wife of 55 years; his sons, Will and Gib; daughter-in-law, Shauna; grandchildren, Grant, Pierce, Bella, Ceci, and Piper; and sister, Lizann Tinney Donley.
In 1973, Bud accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior while watching Dr. Jerry Falwell on the Old Time Gospel Hour. After driving to Lynchburg to meet Dr. Falwell, a friendship developed, and Bud was asked to serve on the board of Lynchburg Baptist College which went on to become Liberty University. Bud was a member of the Board's Executive Committee, and for the past two years he has served as Chairman of the Presidential Search Committee.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at West Cannon Baptist Church, 5760 Cannonsburg Road NE, Belmont MI 49306. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00–7:00 P.M. at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home, and again on Saturday from 10:00–11 A.M. at the church. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, New York.
