Kitty C. Guirgis, 86 years old, residing in Jersey City, New Jersey, left this world to enter into the presence of the Lord she loved and served, on Monday, October 4, 2021. Kitty was born on November 4, 1934, in Cairo, Egypt, and immigrated to the USA in 1972 with her now-deceased husband, Fahmy Guirgis, and deceased eldest son, Dr. Medhat Guirgis, as well as her youngest son.
Before immigrating to the USA, Kitty was a Principal of Shubra-Cairo Secondary School, where she was the Lead Teacher/Professor of French. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Education in 1957. In the USA she worked for over twenty years as a Senior Financial Counselor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry’s Dental School.
Amidst a life of intense trials and loss, she loved, scripturally guided, and generously fed so many people in her lifetime and was a mom to so many more than those to whom she gave birth. She was affectionately referred to as “Mama Kitty” by so many, even her younger siblings. She will be missed more than words can express, but our loss is heaven’s gain and to be absent from the body is to be present with our Savior and Lord. This promise of eternal life in and with Christ and reunion in the resurrection of believers comforts and brings peace to the family at this time.
She is survived by her family in New Jersey; her youngest son, Wafik Guirgis, and his wife Vivian; as well as her brother, Nabeel Gabrael, and his family. Also surviving are her two sisters, Dr. Suzanne Zakhary and Denise El-Ghazaly, along with their husbands, Nabil Zakhary and Nabil El-Ghazaly, respectively, and their families in Egypt; as well as her younger brother, Ramses, residing in Australia. Her younger sister Dr. Alinore (“Nora”) passed away in Egypt more than a decade prior.
All are invited to a visitation with the family which will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021, from 5:00–9:00 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey. A Memorial Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. A private funeral and burial service will be held on Friday morning, October 15, 2021.
