Enduring Love: Kapsowar Hospital Construction

Help Build A Mission Hospital

What started out as a small clinic has now flourished into a thriving hospital serving many ill and injured in a remote region of northwestern Kenya.

Kapsowar is a 126-bed, multi-building hospital that provides facilities for maternity, pediatric, medical, and surgical care. Mobile maternal and child health clinics travel to three centers up to 90 km (56 miles) away. Four dispensaries provide simple health care for the local people. The hospital has approximately 4,000 inpatient admissions and 15,000 outpatient visits per year.

The hospital had the same small surgical room since 1932. During emergencies, surgeons were forced to double up with multiple operations happening in the same tiny room. Samaritan’s Purse saw the need, and built a new, more spacious surgical theater to help facilitate more efficient care for more people. The new facility is more than 10 times the size of the original surgical theater.

Along with providing medical care to this region of Kenya, mission doctors at Kapsowar Hospital also share the Gospel with patients so they may receive spiritual healing as well.

Caring for the sick is still a powerful way to bear witness to Christ, who is the source of all healing. Samaritan’s Purse helps construct, renovate, and expand missionary hospitals and clinics to support Christian doctors and nurses in their compassionate, Kingdom-building work. For about $35,000, we can upgrade a surgical ward or construct an outpatient clinic to serve an impoverished community.
