After losing her first child, a mother searches for hope for her unborn baby
Tak Deab is 22 years old and eight months pregnant with her second child. She and her husband are farmers in Kratie province in Cambodia. During her first pregnancy, Deab didn’t know how to take care of her baby and didn’t eat nutritious food. She worked hard in the field without thinking about her health, and because she was always working, she didn’t have time to go to the health center. She decided to give birth at home. When the baby was six months old, it died.
Samaritan’s Purse, along with health volunteers, met Deab and gave her advice about her second pregnancy. We taught her about nutritious food and how to look for danger signs in pregnancy. She now looks happy and healthy and has been following the advice she’s learned. Below, she answers a few questions.
Kong Nhanh: With what problem has this project helped you?
Tak Deab: This project has helped me to understand which foods I should eat during pregnancy. The staff members also encouraged me to access the health center while I’m pregnant. I’m so happy to see that my baby’s health is good, and I plan to deliver the baby at the health center.
KN: How did this project help you with your problem?
TD: The health volunteers together with the project staff members came to my house and taught me how to prepare food for pregnant women, how to care for children, and care for pregnant women. I’ve learned to eat nutritious food. They visited me often.
KN: Has this project helped you spiritually?
TD: I’m a Buddhist. The staff has shared about Jesus with me. Now I’m taking time to seek to understand about Him more.
KN: How have you started sharing what you learned with other people?
TD: When I met with pregnant mothers who came to my house, I shared with them from my bad experience and from what I have learned from the health volunteers and staff.
