Samaritan’s Purse has continued to serve in Jesus’ Name and to bring comfort to people suffering during the ongoing global health crisis. Our latest response effort was an Emergency Field Hospital in Los Angeles County, California, where we partnered with Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster. Our team of nearly 100 medical professionals cared for a total of 167 COVID-19 patients.

On New Year's Day, Samaritan's Purse teams began setting up an Emergency Field Hospital in Lenoir, North Carolina, to support six regional healthcare systems that were reaching capacity due to rising coronavirus hospitalizations. The hospital, which cared for patients from Jan. 7 to Feb. 3, provided excellent, compassionate care in the Name of Jesus Christ to our neighbors in western North Carolina.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic early last year, Samaritan’s Purse has deployed a total of five Emergency Field Hospitals. In Nassau, the Bahamas, our facility provided additional capacity for Princess Margaret Hospital. Our teams also offered training related to infection prevention and control and how to properly use personal protective equipment.

Samaritan's Purse operated a respiratory care unit in New York City's Central Park from April 1 to May 5. Through our partnership with the Mount Sinai Health System, we treated more than 300 coronavirus patients in New York, including 190 at the park site. More than 240 relief specialists served at various times on the Disaster Assistance Response Team there.

We also ran a similar medical facility outside of Milan, Italy, that opened on March 20 and closed May 7. The 14-tent unit was set up adjacent to the Cremona Hospital in order to treat an overflow of coronavirus patients. Our DC-8 aircraft made two airlifts to Italy in order to deliver the hospital, 20 tons of supplies, and a large Disaster Assistance Response Team.

Samaritan's Purse stands ready to respond to a medical crisis anywhere in the world. We have deployed our Emergency Field Hospital in the aftermath of disasters in Ecuador, Mozambique, and the Bahamas. During the battle to liberate Mosul from ISIS terror, we set up our mobile medical facility on the Plains of Nineveh in Iraq. We have operated Ebola Treatment Centers in both Liberia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Our medical teams also mounted significant deployments in Bangladesh to care for people with diphtheria and in Haiti during a cholera epidemic following Hurricane Matthew.
