Operation Heal Our Patriots Strengthens Military Marriages

Throughout this summer, Samaritan Purse is welcoming current and former military service members and their spouses for a week of renewal in Alaska. God is already restoring marriages and lives as couples experience hope in Jesus Christ.

Operation Heal Our Patriots has started its 15th season and we are seeing God’s faithfulness to transform lives. Many couples arrive at Samaritan Lodge Alaska with marriages struggling and hearts far from God.

But during a week of chaplain-led, Biblically based marriage classes and once-in-a-lifetime excursions into surrounding wilderness areas, these couples begin to experience hope and connection. Most importantly, they begin to understand the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ--the only sure foundation and hope for their future.

Couples also form friendships with other military members facing a lot of the same challenges. These opportunities for community are vital to healthy marriages and spiritual growth.

Operation Heal Our Patriots has grown to include more than 2,000 couples since starting in 2012. In those years, we have seen over 900 men and women place their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and more than 1,000 individuals have been baptized by our chaplains in Lake Clark. And more than 1,000 couples have recommitted their marriages to God.

Alaska is just the beginning. Through our Family Care ministry, we walk alongside this growing community of Alaska alumni.

Couples are offered opportunities to continued growth in their marriage and walk with God.

Regional chaplains and fellow alumni Key Leaders serve military couples in their region with access to follow up, regional gatherings, and local groups to keep them connected with others who face similar challenges. They also help couples plug into a local congregation that’s faithful to God’s Word.

We also offer Fortify Your Marriage weekends, reunions, and other marriage-enrichment opportunities throughout the year, giving couples a chance to meet with friends from their time in Alaska and create new relationships with other couples..

We praise God for what He has done in the lives of military couples through this project. Please pray for the nearly 170 couples coming to Alaska this summer and for our ongoing work in the lives of these families for years to come.
