IRA / Retirement Account
IRA / Retirement Account

If you are age 70 ½ or older, you can give your required minimum distribution (or any amount up to $100,000) from your IRA as a tax-free rollover gift. At your instruction, your IRA custodian pays the gift directly to Samaritan’s Purse, and you will not need to report the withdrawal as taxable income. This applies to IRA accounts only.

For those who hold retirement funds in a 401(k), 403(b), SEP-IRA, or SIMPLE IRA it may be a tax-wise strategy to rollover dollars from those accounts to a standard IRA and then make the charitable gift with a tax-free IRA rollover to Samaritan’s Purse.

Many donors also give from their IRA and other qualified retirement accounts when they pass away, designating Samaritan’s Purse as a beneficiary of part or all of the account. Such gifts are well suited for charity since they avoid income and death taxes.

If you have questions about giving through your IRA/retirement account, please contact our gift planning team at stewardship@samaritan.org or 800-528-1980.
