Wayne Shoemaker, 66, of Purlear, North Carolina, completed his earthly journey on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
He was survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 47 years, Theresa Davis Shoemaker; sons, Travis Shoemaker (Katie) of Cross Plains, Tennessee, and Cody Shoemaker of Kingsport, Tennessee; grandchildren, Davis, Emery, and Hallee Shoemaker; mother, Bertie Martin Shoemaker of Mount Carmel, Tennessee; brother, Shane Shoemaker (Karen) of Springfield, Tennessee; nieces, nephews and cousins; in-laws, George and Cleo Davis and Larry and Kay Davis; and many treasured family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kyle E. Shoemaker; and sister, Rhonda Shoemaker Sands.
Early in life Wayne was employed as a salesman, then became a general contractor prior to his call into full-time ministry.
He had a servant’s heart and lived his life fully committed to the work of the Lord. He served as a gospel musician, Sunday School teacher, Youth Pastor, and Deacon. His ministry culminated in later years as an employee of Samaritan’s Purse where he served with Operation Christmas Child, Disaster Relief, and Donor Ministries.
He had a profound impact on so many lives. He is known for his gentle spirit, great wisdom, creativity, humor, and love for genealogy. His sons remember him always having a tool in his hand and being able to build anything he or they envisioned.
He was a problem solver and deep thinker and avid fan of Star Trek TNG and Andy Griffith.
His physical presence in our lives will be missed but the impression he left on us will remain always.
Visitation will be, January 25, 2024, from 11:00 a.m.–1:45 p.m. at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services, 800 Truxton Drive, Kingsport, TN 37660. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. The Graveside Service will then take place at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 800 Truxton Drive, Kingsport, TN 37660.
