Lilian and her 4-year-old daughter live with her parents in a rural community at the base of the snow-capped Illimani mountains in Bolivia. She grows a variety of vegetables, such as parsley, chives, broccoli, bell peppers, and lettuce to help provide for the family. But, she had been seeking a way to supplement their income and cover basic expenses.

That’s when Lilian’s father heard about a local Samaritan’s Purse project that would be teaching women, particularly single mothers struggling to support their families, how to raise hens and profit from their eggs.

The prospect of starting a small business gave Lilian hope for her family’s economic future. She also was excited for the additional source of protein that the eggs would offer, helping her daughter grow healthy and strong. What God had in store for her, though, included even greater things.

Walking Again with the Lord

The Samaritan’s Purse agricultural and livestock team in Bolivia trained Lilian in the basics of raising chickens and selling their eggs. We taught her how to make a coop, provided materials, and encouraged her as she followed through on construction. Soon, we will give her a batch of hens. Afterward, we will continue to follow up on the project.

The family will soon receive chickens from Samaritan's Purse.

In addition, our team gladly shared the Gospel with Lilian, leading her in prayer and taking her to God’s Word. They prayed together regarding Lilian’s fears about her elderly parents’ health, especially amid the COVID-19 global pandemic. Our staff members encouraged her to place her faith in the Lord no matter the circumstance.

She told them that several years ago, she had done just that when she had accepted Jesus as her Savior and Lord. But since then, she admitted, she had drifted from following Him.

After hearing the Gospel again, Lilian rededicated her life to the Lord.

“I will walk with God again!” Lilian said. “Thank you for sharing with me and strengthening my life and faith in God.”

Our Bolivia team will continue to follow up with Lilian and her family, encouraging her both with her chicken business and in her spiritual walk.

Pray for Lilian as she grows in faith and teaches her daughter how to walk with the Lord. Pray for our projects staff as they help people in need in Jesus’ Name and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.
