A nutrition fair brings people together for the glory of God.
Since the day I arrived in Haiti I had been hearing about the upcoming nutrition fair. This is a big two-day event sponsored by our maternal child health program (MCH), with contributions from our agriculture program.
Dr. Jacob Baptiste, the MCH program manager, and his team were working every day to plan and prepare for this major event. I was excited to see the final product!
Nutrition trainings teach the importance of eating a variety of healthy foods.
The day finally arrived and we left base early to set up. The event featured dozens of vendors who sold products ranging from honey, soap, and medicine to pineapples, mangos, and spinach. The MCH team also hosted nutrition trainings.
The event was a huge success. More than 1,500 people came and we helped raise awareness about the importance of good nutrition.
As much as the success of the event was exciting, what moved me more was to see how the entire Samaritan’s Purse Haiti team came together to support this event. It was so special to see staff who help with other programs take time out of their busy days to attend the nutrition fair.
Vendors sold many types of fruits and vegetables.
What a beautiful picture of community while serving the Lord. Everyone worked together and the Gospel was advanced.
This event demonstrated what unity among a group of believers should look like. The Lord has been teaching me about unity during my time in Haiti, and Ephesians 4:1-3 comes to mind:
“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
I saw this firsthand through the nutrition fair. I am so thankful that the Lord reinforces what He is teaching me with firsthand examples when I can see Him at work.
