Out of the Wilderness

A Marine and his wife begin on a path of healing and peace when they attend Operation Heal Our Patriots.

Scott Riddle suffered from PTSD and other wounds after serving with the Marines in Iraq. His wife Melissa knew that something was wrong with him when he returned home. Panic attacks, anxiety, and confusion overwhelmed him.

“I was not doing anything normal and couldn’t make sense of any of it,” Scott said. “It was very much being in a wilderness.” Scott’s condition slowly started destroying their marriage.

Melissa heard about Operation Heal Our Patriots and applied. When she and Scott arrived at Samaritan Lodge Alaska, they began reading and studying God’s Word. Their time at camp gave them hope that their marriage would be repaired. But when they returned home they quickly realized that they still had a lot of work to do to heal their relationship. Scott still felt like a failure. He lay in the backyard and all he could say was “Jesus. Help.”

Watch the powerful story above about God’s transformative work in the life of this military couple.
