Samaritan’s Purse provides scholarships for disadvantaged students to study and prepare for new livelihood opportunities.
Phinh was determined to help provide for his aging parents so that they could stop crop farming. The village’s mountainous terrain made it an unreliable trade. He desperately wanted to attend college to study and start a new profession, but he could not afford the tuition.
He was thrilled when he learned that Samaritan’s Purse provides scholarships for vulnerable youth to attend the Hoa Sua Economics and Tourism Intermediate School. Students are trained in vocations such as sewing, culinary arts, and hospitality services. The Samaritan’s Purse scholarships cover housing, tuition, and monthly stipends.
Phinh chose to enroll in financial management, and as he pored over his lessons he found great enjoyment in what he was learning. He was eager to start practicing his studies and so started applying his knowledge to budgeting his stipends for daily necessities and savings.
He also took on a part-time job as a food server, and every time he received a paycheck, he faithfully put a portion of it into savings.

Phinh worked hard at his part-time job and practiced classroom knowledge by creating a financial plan.
Phinh was thankful for the lessons he was learning to practice, and he was growing more excited about the life he was building for himself in Hanoi.
But then he heard devastating news from home.
Severe storms and flooding had destroyed his parents’ house and crops. Because of his financial discipline, he was able to help them recover after the disaster. His parents were overwhelmed when he gave them everything in his savings.
“I am very grateful for Samaritan’s Purse. Thanks to what I learned about financial management, I was able to help my parents,” he said. “Without that preparation, I do not know what my family would have done.”
Seeing his parents’ relief transformed how he saw his plans for the future. He realized that he could use his education to help other families as well and was more determined than ever to work hard to learn and teach others how to develop wise financial plans.
Phinh graduated among the top students in his class and was selected for several prestigious internship opportunities. Inspired by the way Samaritan’s Purse supported him, he continues to learn what it means to help others. “Love is vividly expressed through the actions of the staff and has had a positive influence on me and my peers,” he said.
Please pray for our team as we continue to assist students in their vocational training in Vietnam. Pray also for the students, that they would find hope and experience God’s love.
