
Shirley Ann Boyles Brown, 86, a former resident of Greensboro, passed away on Friday May 9, 2026, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point. She was born November 1, 1939, in Guilford County, the daughter of Robert Lee and Annie Garner Boyles.
Shirley grew up in High Point and attended Ray Street Elementary School, Ferndale Junior High School and graduated from High Point High School (High Point Central High School). She attended Gardner-Webb College. For 35 years she was a secretary for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC-G). She was a devoted volunteer to her community, serving in the Gift Store at Wesley Long Hospital and The Greensboro History Museum. A 55 plus year member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro, she was a member of the WMU of the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Elzene Boyles Pierce. Shirley married Fred Lowell Brown who survives at Pennybyrn. Also surviving are her daughter, Luann Brown Kirk and husband Bert of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her son, Robert L. Brown and wife Bonnie of Denver, North Carolina; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 13, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Private family interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made in Shirley’s memory to the Christian Assistant Fund at First Baptist Church, 1000 West Friendly Ave. Greensboro, NC 27401 or Samaritan Purse.
