Vance Green, a beloved husband, father, and community pillar of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, at the age of 93 in Beaumont, Texas.
Born on October 6, 1932, in Shelbyville, Texas, Vance graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1949, served honorably in the U.S. Army, and built a respected career as an electrician supervisor, retiring from Texaco Chemical where his expertise and teamwork were deeply valued.
Deeply faithful, he taught men’s Sunday school for 68 years. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Nederland; he also previously served as a deacon at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Nederland, as well as First Baptist Church in Center, Texas. He led Bible studies in retirement homes, officiated weddings and funerals, and was a proud Masonic Lodge member.
Vance was an active soul who cherished simple joys. He delighted in fishing and hunting, tending his bountiful home garden, and volunteered his time and expertise as an electrician to churches and those in need.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 69 years, Betty Green of Port Arthur; his loving children, Donna Ann Green of Nederland, Lori Dell Millner and her husband, Dr. Glenn Millner, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Nancy Lynn Thain and her husband, Donald Thain, of Comfort, Texas, and David Vance Green and his wife, Deborah Green, of Nederland; 12 adoring grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who held him dear.
Vance was preceded in death by his parents, Vessie and Mary Lee Green; and siblings, Mary Ellen Sapp, Vernelle Williams, Faye Green, Fred Green, and Johnnie Price; and granddaughter-in-law, Laura Montondon. The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to Autumn Morrell for her dedication, care and compassion given to Vance during these past few months.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Watson and Son's Funeral Home, 1554 TX-7E, Center, Texas, followed by interment at Carroll Cemetery in Shelbyville, Texas. Vance's legacy of kindness, faith, and family love will forever warm the hearts of those he touched over these many years.
