BROUGHT TOGETHER TO DEPEND ON GOD

A translator for Children's Heart Project explains how a group of people came together to help God save a young boy's life.

Sarai Pohlenz worked with Children’s Heart Project as a translator for a young boy from Honduras and his mother.

Have you ever asked yourself how it’s possible that people around the world who have never met can work together to help and serve someone they don´t know? When I think about this, 1 John 4:7 comes to my mind: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.”

I was about to graduate from university when I heard about Children’s Heart Project. I thought it would be a great opportunity to travel to a foreign country, meet new people, and help someone in need. I thought most people would say it was the perfect job, and I was excited about it. But at the end of the road, the experience was beyond my expectations.

BROUGHT TOGETHER TO DEPEND ON GOD

Daniel had a heart defect that would eventually result in his death if not treated, and surgery in Honduras was not possible.

I met little Angel Daniel and his parents two weeks before our departure date. From that moment, I felt a special connection with him, and God placed a burden in my heart to pray vigorously for him and to share his story with my home church so that they could also pray for his life and surgery.

Finally, it was the day of our trip. When we arrived in the U.S., we immediately felt God´s love flowing through the people we met at the airport. Those people were going to be our companions through this journey and were so welcoming and nice.

To our surprise, Daniel’s surgery had to be delayed because he got sick. That was not part of our plan, but God knows best and had everything under control.

After waiting a couple of days, Daniel had his surgery. The surgeon told us that he was going to be in the operating room for about three to four and a half hours. While the operation was in process, the doctor realized that there was more to be done than he had expected. We waited for about two more hours, trusting God was taking care of Daniel and knowing that he couldn’t be in better hands.

When the surgery was over, we were all happy, but the recovery process had just begun.

We remained at the hospital eight days after the operation, and we were amazed at how God took care of us. People from church brought us food and came to visit Daniel to see how he was doing. I was astonished that all these people were so caring and willing to give and demonstrate their love through providing for our needs.

BROUGHT TOGETHER TO DEPEND ON GOD

Through Daniel’s surgery, Sarai saw God bring a lot of people together for His glory.

After being discharged from the hospital, we arrived at our host family´s home. We all knew that we still had other medical appointments and continued to take special care of little Daniel. They were such loving and wonderful hosts. As the days went by, we could still feel God´s care. He provided everything we needed for Daniel´s appointments and therapies, and Daniel was getting better every day.

This experience showed me that it was not just a job. It was not just about being an interpreter, a host family, or people who served by providing food or transportation. It was about depending on God, not our own strengths, to do what had to be done. We all were moved by God’s love to help and serve Daniel so that he could have a life-changing surgery, all for the glory of the King.

My heart was immediately connected to the Children’s Heart Project vision. They work to supply for a physical need to share God’s love with others so that they can also come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. I thank God for the opportunity He gave me to serve Him, Daniel, and his mom as an interpreter and friend.

I will always guard this experience within my heart and pray that Daniel can grow and come to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior. I pray that he will share with others how God provided everything he needed so that his heart could be fixed and so that he can be a living testimony of God’s love, mercy, and grace in his life.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen,” (Ephesians 3:20-21, NKJV).
