A farmer in Cambodia receives knowledge and tools to help him raise chickens

Ven Saroun lives in northeastern Cambodia with his wife and three children. His family depends on cassava and chickens for income.

I used to face many problems. I didn’t know how to take care of my chickens and used traditional methods. I didn’t keep them in a fence, so they ran free. This meant that many of them got diseases, and 60 percent of them died. We lost money and only had our cassava to rely on.

Samaritan’s Purse selected my family to attend training on agriculture and livestock. The staff members provided us with training, which motivated my family to come up with a plan. We’re now applying the training and raising organic chickens. The project gave us a fence for our chickens, seeds, and fruit trees.

Nowadays, my family has more than 500 chickens (250 for meat, 50 for eggs, and 200 chicks). We’re selling 20 chickens per month. I’m happy now because our income is getting better and better. I’d like to thank Samaritan’s Purse, the Christian organization that helped guide and motivate my family. They encouraged us by sharing the love of God.
