A widow in DRC receives much needed food and other supplies

Zasi Djumai is a 99-year-old beneficiary of a Samaritan’s Purse fair, where she was able to receive food and non-food items. Zasi has faced war in her homeland, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, for much of her life.

The war has made my life difficult. I lost my husband several years ago and lived alone because my six children married young. Sometimes I left my village to go to other, safer places, but in my old age, I was unable to continue moving. Because I was exhausted, I sometimes stayed in the village alone or slept in the forest. Finally, I ended up staying with a host family. I survived by God’s grace.

Samaritan’s Purse is a special blessing for me, especially considering my age. When they started food distributions in 2014, I was joyful even though I wasn’t a beneficiary. Now I have even more joy in my heart because I’ve received food and non-food items from a Samaritan’s Purse fair. It’s allowed me to lead a life of autonomy.

My illness combined with a lack of food led me closer to death, but now, thanks to this food and the prayers of Samaritan’s Purse staff members, I no longer fear death. If I die now, it’s not hunger or the lack of love but the will of God. Blessed be the activities of Samaritan’s Purse, and I pray to God that you’re prosperous.
