Farmers receive aid after being displaced
After we got married, we decided to make our living by farming on the outskirts of the gold mine in Opyenge. We were able to sell the food we grew at a good price to the people who worked at the quarry.

After the Mai Mai rebel group arrived, everything was disrupted. We were taken prisoner for three weeks and forced to dig for gold. After we were freed, we fled to Cantine, where we have lived for the past year and a half.
Samaritan’s Purse helped us by supplying us with tools and seeds for two planting seasons. This support has allowed us to have a new start in life and hope for the future. Because of the large quantity of maize that I was able to produce, I was able to buy household goods our family needed and start a small business selling maize seed.
We can now eat without difficulty, and I can save a few pennies for our family’s future. God willing, I hope to produce enough rice to have financial stability. I’m thankful to God for his intervention and all of the blessings He has filled our family with. May His name be blessed, and may the men and women who work with Samaritan’s Purse never stop sharing the love that they have continually showed us throughout this project.
