Judith Lingoli is a farmer and mother of three. She was displaced from her home by war.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has been in a civil war for more than 20 years. When the war reached us, we had to flee our home quickly, leaving behind all our food and clothes. The militia prevented us from returning to our village.

Eventually, we were able to return home when the fighting stopped in the area, but we still didn’t have food or basic necessities. My son, Furabo Moïse, was so malnourished that we took him to Nyankunde Hospital, which Samaritan’s Purse supports, for treatment. I met Rachel from Samaritan’s Purse, who taught us about feeding practices, hygiene for food preparation, the home, and the yard.

Later, she invited us to join the garden group program to help our child stay healthy. Samaritan’s Purse agronomists helped us select land for our garden. They also taught us how to begin a vegetable nursery and brought us tools to use in our new garden. We thank Samaritan’s Purse for the tools and the training.
