Shelter and the Word of God

A woman who received shelter from Samaritan’s Purse also receives a Bible and prayer

It was hot and sunny as I traveled to Santa Fe with a group of Bible distributors from Samaritan’s Purse. The task was to distribute a copy of the Bible in the local dialect to people who had received shelter from us.

As we arrived in Zone 1 of Santa Fe, I immediately noticed the Samaritan’s Purse tarpaulins. They could be seen in every household. If it wasn’t used as roofing, it was used as walls to cover their houses. The people of Santa Fe were largely affected by the devastation when Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines.

One elderly lady who received a copy of the Bible looked at me as I passed by her house. I approached her, thinking that she wanted to say something. Her name was Teresita. I asked her how she was, and she replied, “I’m fine,” then immediately said she was grateful to Samaritan’s Purse for coming to her place.

She told me how her house had been flattened by the typhoon. Until we came, they had no place to live. She told me Samaritan’s Purse came in and fulfilled a promise to help her.

She was also grateful to have received a copy of the Bible. She nodded in agreement when I said it’s important to also build our soul with the word of God. Before I left, I said a prayer for Teresita and her family.
